Travellers Lodge Bagamoyo is one of the most beautiful beach hotels in Bagamoyo, a historical town in the heart of the romantic Swahili Coast of Tanzania.

Cool and simple cottages are secluded in a tropical forest a few steps from the warm Indian Ocean. Our restaurant offers delicious local and international dishes from cheese & bacon burgers to fisherman’s platters and fondues for two.

The bar offers a wide selection of wines, whiskeys and beers. Service is helpful and warmly Tanzanian. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly.

Forty-five coconut palms and thorny sand dunes on the Wild East Coast – that was all we found here in the summer of 1991. Construction began in ‘92 with a store and a few simple rooms to accommodate guests.

Year after year Travellers Lodge has grown, combining beautiful local materials with the knowledge of local craftsmen and our own inspiration. The gardens have become a tropical forest with a unique collection of indigenous and exotic trees and over 100 palm species.

After almost 30 years of love, laughter and resilience, we are the oldest continuously running hotel in Bagamoyo. Guests feel at home in the peaceful atmosphere of Travellers Lodge Bagamoyo.

Cool, airy, secluded bungalows with spacious verandah ~ all en-suite with hot water and quiet air conditioner, fan, double beds and mosquito nets. Rooms are simple, yet comfortable and well maintained. Be enchanted by seaviews with graceful wooden dhows from times gone by, or drink in the peace of the lush, tropical gardens.

Surrounded by abundant tropical gardens, the restaurant features famous Makonde carvings and an impressive palm-thatched roof with hardwood logs.

Our kitchen is well known for delicious, hearty and homemade dishes, all prepared from fresh ingredients. Favorites include bacon-cheese beef burgers, crab surprise and beef strognov, served with skinny fries, mash or coconut rice.

Vegetarians can enjoy organic stir fry vegies with cashew nuts and coconut rice or vegie curries with chapatis.

Fishermen supply us with fresh catch as the dhows come in.  Signature dishes include our mouth-watering Fisherman’s Platter and Seafood Fondue for two. We also offer delicious grills and buffets for groups.

Our well-stocked bar welcomes you to an extensive selection of wines, spirits and non-alcoholic beverages. Or simply unwind with an icy beer in the relaxed and easy-going atmosphere.

Travellers Lodge offers a unique venue for meetings and retreats. The conference room seats 25 people. Tea-breaks and meals are served in our charming restaurant overlooking the gardens. The pleasant atmosphere, welcoming & efficient service, a well-stocked bar & good food create the ideal ambience for collaboration and teambuilding.

The cool, tree-shaded and secure grounds of Travellers Lodge welcome private travellers with tents and overlanders with private vehicles. We provide shower & toilet facilities. Guests are welcome to all lodge amenities and WiFi in the restaurant/bar.

We arrange transfers, music performances and local tours for our guests on request.

Visit Bagamoyo historical stone town, Kaole Ruins, the Museum, College of Arts for lively music festivals, or art and spice markets. We can help arrange snorkelling off a nearby sandbank, or Saadani river safari and/or game drives.
